WHAT I BELIEVE & WHAT I WILL DO

I believe that Music Education must be considered as a core subject area in all schools.

I believe that regular Music Education, taught by certified music educators, should be available to all students. Sequential music programs should consist of meaningful experiences involving creating, performing and responding and connecting to music.

I believe that the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) must include measures “likely to increase student access to and participation in well-rounded education subject areas.” ESSA developments must support a well-rounded education, including music for all students.

I will help to promote the new NY State Music Standards and provide opportunities through conference and in-service workshops to help educators become familiar with the Standards and apply them to their teaching.

I will work to refine the NYSSMA Festival process to make it accessible to as many teachers and their students as possible and to listen to teachers for input throughout the refinement process.

I will work as a tireless advocate for Music Education in New York.  In this shifting political landscape I will be vigilant and communicate important State and National updates to membership.
